Your Weekly Privacy & Security Wins 🏆 (Week 49 - Apr 3 2025)

This is why we need to decentralize things. I recently switched from Proton to my personal email server by using GitHub - stalwartlabs/mail-server: Secure & Modern All-in-One Mail Server (IMAP, JMAP, POP3, SMTP). I’m also exploring using it for my business if possible, but we currently use Proton Business for our setup (due to security compliance). Speaking of email, we don’t use a web client; we use Thunderbird or Outlook (depending on the employee)—we are old-fashioned. I like Thunderbird, though it’s quite bloated. (Also, I only use POP3 in case the mail server goes down, so you won’t lose your emails. SMTP is newer, but it’s trash, in my opinion.) I recommend, if you have experience in server administration, just setting it up. Stalwart makes it very easy with a web interface. I’ve always hated setting up email, but Stalwart makes it simple. I don’t have to edit a million .yml config files just to get it working.
