Edit: On the grand scheme of showing that it isn’t about anything having against them I’ve devised the plan of keeping the account but having the pfp be the “For faster response contact on signal”. I hope someone takes up on the message, with the same phone number to ensure proper discoverability there.
Below still applies though. I am obviously not responding to any messages on Viber.
I do hate that Viber notifies group members that I left when deactivating account, This shouldn’t happen in a situation where I want to escape it (Signal also does this and I wish both gave this option for this threat model). And of course I’m gonna say it’s for security not privacy reasons here because you know the state of people in my country…
The small win is that I Installed thunderbird on my dad’s new phone to use for the work email, It’s a small step in the right direction and I’m gonna try to get my business to proton if possible and also get my dad to use signal now.
As for the photos and navigation situation, First I’ve decided on Waze to put on my notorious user as that at the very least doesn’t require an account to use navigation which is great, less data point to go off of to than Google Maps
Second, I remember telling my dad once not to put photos of me on Facebook, Viber is fine since it’s E2EE but he laughed it off which is honestly disrespectful and Not being the best of all of telling jokes, I wasn’t sure on that, hopefully they just stick to sending them on Viber and that’s it, and I will keep asking them in case they would dare think to post elsewhere and man it feels nice to have a friend that fully respects it actually.
