This may seem like a lot of work but once set up, itās not. A free calendar from you/Techlore with all its live streaming and other events that people can add to their calendar and have it directly show up in their calendars would be perfect.
This would help if people donāt come here often to learn whatās going on in the forum but still want to be caught up with Techlore stuff online.
You can simply share a calendar link and we can add it to ours.
Please consider it. People have a lot going on in their lives and live b their calendars so itās better to have this than keep track of yet another thing.
Well, techncially no. But I would imagine and Iām pretty sure it would work like any other holiday or event calendars you may add to your own from the service you use. Itāll be like a national or state holiday calendar for your region that countries and local governments have. Same principle.
It is indeed possible. You just need to be careful and only add events when itās confirmed and whatnot so it shows up on everyones end and they can make time for it if they want.
edit: Be a trailblazer. Be different. Try it.
I used to do this in college (with teams in classes) and other friends who could not make time or respond to messages on time so I could simply make an event and add so itās automatically shared with people who live by their calendars so they are aware of whatās happenening when if they wanted to join. Better than any alternative, Iāve found.
Currently translating my setup from win11 to Linux Mint for a couple of weeks now.
One of my biggest wins this week is ditching Google services and replacing them with the Proton ecosystem. It feels like i finally have more control over my whole PC too because of Linux. I am really happy so far and eager to learn more!
On that thought, I also enjoy the sandboxing nature of flatpaks, being able to restrict file access for applications is a thing i never even considered on windows.
Got my roommate install ublock origin. He uses chrome, but for now manifest V2 is working. Not so hard as he thought and completely legal by our countryās laws
Got a new router that isnāt spying on me. After getting fiber internet, they provided Plume pods as the default router, but the only interface is through a phone app, and they get all my data sent to them. It does come with really nice features and doesnāt look predatory, amazing for most people, but it was too limited for what I wanted to do.
SO I went overkill and got a BananaPi R3 and installed OpenWRT on it. I realize now I could have gotten a cheaper router thatās supported by OpenWRT (there are tons) and use that instead, so if anyone wants to try OpenWRT, you donāt have to buy another computer like I did.
Learned a lot in the process, and now have a lot of possibilities. So I added on a 2TB M.2 storage onto it and set it up as a WebDAV share, so now I have another place to backup anything on my phone onto it periodically, mostly pictures.
Also got adblock set up on the router. Looking to add wireguard VPN or use Tailscale on it so I can securely connect to it from anywhere and manage my home network.
Also, getting a new phone and getting my wife to use GrapheneOS.
My Pixel 3a running CalyxOS started crapping out on me (boot-looping) so Iām taking it as a sign to get a new phone. Ordered unlocked Pixel 8 Pro on Swappa and looking to install GrapheneOS on it.
Iāve tried GrapheneOS before on Pixel 5a (my wife will be getting that phone), but came across a video by Side of Burritos showing a really interesting setup that Iām interested in trying out. No Neo-Store, F-Droid, or Aurora store. Fascinating setup, but it makes sense and Iām excited to try it out.
In the video, he describes a really sketchy way to verify phone number to get an anonymous Google account, but in the comments, they mentioned a much easier way:
You can create a new google account without phone number verification if you create it during the android device setup process. E.g. you could bring an old android device to a cafe and factory reset it + connect to wifi then create the new google account on setup. Iāve done this many times and havenāt needed a phone number
Regarding (2) Iāve used Filen and it does look promising - I would recommend having your own offline backup of anything you store there just in case. When it comes to photos, Iād recommend Ente because it has a great user experience specifically for photos. Especially when it comes to sharing albums with people you can quickly create links, and even use those links to allow others to upload photos if you were out with family/friends.
Generally speaking, I view photos as something thatās better kept in their own place. For example, if I used iCloud Drive for cloud storage, I wouldnāt recommend also putting photos in iCloud Photos.
