Also, getting a new phone and getting my wife to use GrapheneOS.

My Pixel 3a running CalyxOS started crapping out on me (boot-looping) so I’m taking it as a sign to get a new phone. Ordered unlocked Pixel 8 Pro on Swappa and looking to install GrapheneOS on it.

I’ve tried GrapheneOS before on Pixel 5a (my wife will be getting that phone), but came across a video by Side of Burritos showing a really interesting setup that I’m interested in trying out. No Neo-Store, F-Droid, or Aurora store. Fascinating setup, but it makes sense and I’m excited to try it out.

In the video, he describes a really sketchy way to verify phone number to get an anonymous Google account, but in the comments, they mentioned a much easier way:

You can create a new google account without phone number verification if you create it during the android device setup process. E.g. you could bring an old android device to a cafe and factory reset it + connect to wifi then create the new google account on setup. I’ve done this many times and haven’t needed a phone number
