The EU Council has delayed the vote on chat control due to insufficient support. Belgium, holding the Council Presidency, couldn’t secure a majority, so the vote is postponed. From July, Hungary, a strong supporter of chat control, will take over the presidency and continue the negotiations. Germany opposed the proposal, while France showed some willingness to compromise. Critics, including Patrick Breyer, celebrate the delay but warn that efforts to pass the proposal will persist. They call for a revision that excludes general chat control and respects user privacy.
