I’d be willing to bet there are some in the privacy community that consider 1 company having some of their user data being far better than the previous way things were that the advertisers and websites didn’t have to fully rely on Google for data on their users.
For me, I would not say that I agree with the way that Google collects data on their users. However, I can see the value in providing these anonymizing techniques for the end user. It is still a major issue that Google essentially gets to have a monopoly on so much user data. I don’t think that’s a problem of the privacy sandbox, however.
If we want to reel back the actual data collection of Google, that will have to be done by regulations. But we have to acknowledge the positives in policies like this, even if we don’t fully agree with them. Otherwise, we look more like idealogues than advocates.
