Switzerland narrowly approves plan for digital ID

Maybe Swiss will vote again about E-ID, because of cheating.

Following Swisscom’s controversial donation, major media companies Ringier and TX Group also supported the “yes” camp in the e-ID vote – with CHF 163,000

Just a few days before last Sunday’s e-ID vote, Ringier AG (Wednesday, September 24, 2025) and TX Group AG (Friday, September 26, 2025) supported the Pro E-ID alliance with a total of CHF 163,000. Ringier, publisher of Blick among other titles, provided non-monetary contributions worth CHF 85,000 in the form of media space, i.e., free advertising for a yes vote in the referendum. The TX Group, publisher of Tages-Anzeiger and Switzerland’s largest online media outlet 20 Minuten, among others, placed free advertisements worth CHF 78,000.

The two major media companies thus campaigned for the adoption of the E-ID law without this being apparent in their reporting in a transparent or clear manner. This is likely to leave not only readers but also some of their own writers, who believed they were committed to independent and objective journalism, feeling duped and misled.

This support could be even more significant in the final stages of the referendum campaign on the validity of the popular vote. A complaint has already been filed against the equally controversial donation of CHF 30,000 to the “yes” camp by the state-affiliated Swisscom. This is said to be an "unlawful intervention in the
