Surveillance Report Sources Rant

I love Surveillance Report and often want to reference the show, but can never find the episode where X was discussed again, besides maybe the highlight story.

Since the individual news aren’t mentioned in the video description or the podcast description, there is no way to search for them.

I understand that the description would get really long and that it makes sense to keep the individual news to the sources page.

But there I still can’t find story X for which I’m searching, because there is no search function. It would be nice to see all sources for all episodes in one page, where I could utilize my browsers search function. Or at least have a page where all individual episode sources pages are linked to. Because at the moment I see no option to get the sources for say, SR100, besides looking in up when it was published and then typing the URL by hand.

What I’m getting at is: Thank you for having sources for every episode, but they sadly aren’t useful for research, besides finding the articles you talk about as one is listening to the episode :frowning:

What I’m proposing: A way to find storys again, by either having all story headlines in the description of the video/podcast (I see the drawbacks) or by making the sources page searchable (either a search function build in; all sources on one page; or even a link to every individual SR Sources page on one page, so I can scrape them).

Thank you for making SR and taking time out of your lives to make something that is useful to me

Yeah it seems annoying, but not on purpose. This currently is a limitation of what we use to publish the posts via omg.lol. I’ll explore some solutions but ideally this is something that they would integrate so we don’t have to migrate to a totally different system.

In the meantime, you could scrape the RSS feed if that helps?

Thanks. The RSS feed seems to only contain sources for the last 24 episodes, but I added it to my RSS reader and will get the new sources

@fenymmk I played around with this and actually found some fun stuff in our config file to play with. I set recent posts to 100 so theoretically both the RSS and the ‘Recent Posts’ should display up to 100 entries

Hm. I was going to suggest using a search engine, limiting it to that domain and searching for key words related to your query. Not ideal, obviously, but it’d be something.

But I can’t seem to get it to work.
