Hi Techlore community,
I’m kindly requesting y’all to post websites that showcase the impact of the decline of digital privacy on individual people. I think that is very meaningful content to share with our peers that don’t feel like privacy-hardening their digital life is a positive journey to go on. Strategically this is also what charity advertisements do, for example showing an individual person or child and how they are affected. I think sharing these kinds of stories regarding the decline of privacy maybe makes more difference than sharing what browsers or search engines they should switch to. When they care, they might ask us what online practices are better for privacy.
This is my favorite site I’ve found that does this (the site name is in Dutch but everything else is fully translated):
Not sure I understand what you’re looking for. Are you looking for websites and resources that show the consequences and costs of our declining digital privacy?
I’m looking for sites that share stories about individual people, and how they are affected by digital privacy. Not large scale, just individuals. The site linked is kind of what I mean. And it’s not just for me, because I hope that others can use these shared sites too in the quest of raising privacy awareness in others.
Edit: If you have a privacy advocacy site in mind but not sure if it fits the description, just post it anyway, regardless if it is large scale consequences instead of individual stories of people. I’m curious to read them anyway.
Those are great, thank you for sharing. The third one is a good reminder that we don’t own our Google account, or anything that has the account at the steering wheel. Very devastating. Although, there is no sign that this is due to a lack of digital privacy, because there was no reason declared why his account was banned. Still a good share though!
Thankyou, those are some great sources! The dad who got flagged as a criminal seems to be a good one, since both you and tazerface shared it. And these stories although not all of them sharing the story of the individual person that is affected by privacy, they do highlight the practical everyday-life downsides of a decline in privacy!
