PWA webapp - how to stay logged in?

Henry regularly speaks about the massive advantages of web apps. I am having a little trouble understanding how I can stay logged in and use them effectively.
Using iOS, if I “install” the PWA for anything, the next time I “open” the app, I need to login in once again.
Is this normal behaviour?
Or is there a simple setting I’m missing to retain the “logged in” status?

On android, is there any optimal setting to achieve the same result?

I have tried many different apps and have the same issue with every app. Any assistance would be really appreciated.

Do you have your browser set to clear cookies? All your installed web apps run using your browser, so if your browser is set to clear cookies, you won’t stay logged in.

Thanks for the response.
On iOS I’m using safari, and I’m pretty sure it doesn’t have any auto deleting options unless I’m mistaken.
I just tried Instagram (I know, I know) and this forum, logging in using normal safari browsing windows on my iPad. Also had safari remember the login details.
I do have lockdown mode enabled. Not sure if that would impact anything.
I’m actually still logged on in safari where I created the Home Screen shortcut. In both cases as soon as I open the pwa it opens in a new window but isn’t logged in.

I’m assuming this forum is a pwa? Sorry I haven’t been able to find much information to know whether something is a pwa or just a bookmark.

** edit: grammar

A quick addition, instagram website had lockdown mode disabled.
With this forum I also disabled lockdown mode for the site, but no change.

You do you! Instagram works for some threat models. The fact that you’re thinking about containing this in the form of a web app is a positive step!

Discourse forums are PWAs, though I’m not sure how they show in iOS. Generally, a PWA will show in its own window like a native app and sometimes also send notifications like a native app.

Besides that, I would check cookie settings to see what the deal is. That’s all I can think off because I stay logged into my PWAs whether I log in from the browser or after I install the app.

Thanks for that. Good to know.
The forum pwa on android through brave seems to be working fine now. Maybe I had some self deleting options turned on for Brave.

On ios it always seems to require a login.
Has anyone gotten the ios pwa to stay logged in?

Looks like I was doing things in the wrong order.

I assumed that if I login before saving / installing the pwa then the credentials would also be included.

Currently on iOS with the forum, if I first save the pwa to the Home Screen, then login, even after closing and relaunching it will still be logged in.

Lockdown mode doesn’t seem to have any impact.
