ProtonVPN and NextDNS: Is it safe?

It looks like ProtonVPN and NextDNS work together on MacOS, contrary to iOS. So, I was wondering if using both together is safe and secure, given that I have activated DNS leak protection on ProtonVPN. Also, is NextDNS more effective than NetShield?

Yes, it should be perfectly fine if you want to use NextDNS and block more than NetShield does and if you want analytics of it all.

But when you ask is it safe - it may also depend on what you’re trying to be safe from and why. But for general privacy/security purposes - it is fine.

Thanks! Mostly I’m worried about two things. My real IP leaking and NextDNS handling my data with as much care as Proton does.

Yeah you should be fine. NextDNS is reputable and they are popular among privacy enthusiasts.

The last I checked, NextDNS uses Google Cloud (for streaming logs), Vercel (AWS) (to host the website), and Cloudflare (as a CDN). Each of those providers, from what I can tell without access to internal systems is, have access to unencrypted customer data. So, make what you will.

True, but don’t think privacy enthusiasts prefer other DNSes over their VPN provider’s or ones they can self-host, like Pi-Hole / Technitium.

Good points

Only if we had RethinKDNS for iOS and macOS.
