Hey everyone! Plexus v2 recently went live on GitHub! We’d love you all to give it a shot. For those new to the concept…Plexus allows you to report which apps work/don’t work on your custom ROM so other people can properly assess which ROMs work best for them. V2 allows submissions directly from the app by automatically listing apps you have on your phone. Super convenient way to contribute data.
Download the latest APK here, F-Droid and ourselves are still troubleshooting some issues so the version on F-Droid is outdated:
More Details/Info
Development hasn’t been the fastest but we hope you enjoy v2! The website is still being overhauled and I’ll send out some PSAs once that’s done. I’ll also put out a more formal video announcement once all the pieces are figured out. (F-Droid, Website, etc.) Please keep in mind that the core contributors for Plexus are doing this on their own time and we have set up a liberapay just for them: https://en.liberapay.com/Plexus/ - 100% of money contributed goes to them and not Techlore!
For those who have any more questions please leave them below, including any bugs/issues
Hi, I’m curious about how Plexus works.
Do the color-coded ratings only show whether an app is working or not, or does Plexus also provide information about which specific features aren’t working or why an app received a certain rating?
Thanks for the info.
I’ll check out the user ratings section to see what details are available.
It’s a bit weird that adding notes isn’t mandatory, it would be helpful to know why an app got a certain rating.
We just discussed this idea, it’s not a bad one! Our concerns with this are adding too many friction points for people who just want to leave a review. (thinking people who have hundreds of apps they want to rate) And making it mandatory may increase abuse of people typing gibberish. But we’ll keep this on the backburner and re-explore as time goes on!
I just installed the app on my e/os fairphone 4 phone. When I go to rate apps, I only have the option to rate it with microG Status. I do have microG installed but it and its functionality is disabled and not setup. I do not see a way to rate an app for de-Googled. Even if the app was installed with f-droid and would have nothing to do with microG in the first place… How do I rate apps not using microG? #confusing
I guess the project is abandoned. Interesting concept but its not really usable or reliable without more options for the rater to override the app default settings which is wrong 100% of the time for me, such as forcing me to rate as using microG when thats false (I dont use microG), and sometimes it says my apps r from google-play-alt when really they are from fdroid or sometimes it says they are from fdroid when they were just downloaded apk’s…
We pushed an update 2 weeks ago and there were changes made 3 days ago, it’s not abandoned. This just isn’t a great place for support/issues. You should report issues on GitHub:
The developers are not active here on this forum so that’s a much better place to report issues like this. It’s hard for me to keep up with everything happening here and relay it, but I just sent them a link on Signal so they’re aware.
If you find bugs or have suggestions, please report it to the issue tracker.
Make sure you’re on the latest version before reporting any issues.
We encourage you to search for existing issues before opening a new one. Any duplicates will be closed.
ok sorry about that then. Im glad its still active. Hopefully my issues will eventually be addressed. I lurk on Git but haven’t had an account on there for a couple of years now.
Developer added a quick Q&A update for this question.
I have microG installed, but also want to rate apps when de-googled (or vice versa). How would I do that?
You can do any of the following:
uninstall microG & relaunch the app.
set up a work profile without microG and install the app on that profile too.
Also for your second question copying their response:
Regarding their other question: when some apps are installed from fdroid it doesn’t detect as installed from fdroid because of reproducible builds.
If any app on fdroid is a reproducible build, then that app is not signed by fdroid themselves, it uses the developer signed certificate.
When the app is installed, it uses the system’s package installer itself so that’s why it will be detected as apk even if it’s installed from fdroid.
For similar questions it may be easier to bring these issues up on GitHub to save the messaging back/forth between everyone. Hope this helps!
