November Livestream Q&A - Priority Thread! 🙋 | Techlore

https://www.patreon.com/posts/november-q-93731031

We’ll be hosting a Q&A! I (and hopefully @Jonah ) will be going live Thursday, November 30th at Noon Pacific, and all questions from patrons will be prioritized over everything else. The livestream will be public after-the-fact so you can still catch your questions being answered even if you don’t tune in live.

So if you want to ask something, just leave it down under this post and I’ll answer it in the livestream! Patrons on Patreon & here on the forum will be prioritized, as well as regulars. Just keep it appropriate

Whenever I see statements like “will be prioritised over everything else” I get the mental image of the house burning down and Henry saying “no, we must answer all the patron questions before fleeing!” :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

But my question would be: @Henry has mentioned that part of his privacy wake-up was the Snowden revelations. I recently finished Permanent Record, and watched an interview with him in which he said the worst thing he could think of resulting from his revelations was that nothing would change.

In the last 10 years, do you think things have changed, and if so do you think they’ve gotten better, worse, or just qualitatively different?

I am currently using Stock Android (Not a Pixel) and if I were to buy a new phone in the next two years, what OS do you recommend I should go for?

Pixels can’t be purchased here in my place locally and the official google store doesn’t ship products to my country.

I don’t know if I want to go with iPhone, Samsung or buy a Pixel through Amazon. (money isn’t an issue cause im saving)

I prioritize security as my work is online but I also want to try to be private when possible. Really want a Pixel but I’m afraid that some functions might not work. (like sms for example)

And also, thank you for all the work you all are doing as always🥳

Any thoughts on the recently reported ownCloud vulnerability (ownCloud vulnerability with maximum 10 severity score comes under “mass” exploitation | Ars Technica)? In particular, what are some tips that people who are interested in self-hosting can do to protect themselves from similar issues in self-hosted FOSS services (besides the obvious: keeping the software updated, etc.)?

Hello again Mr Henry I have Only 2 questions this time and I hope you don’t ignore me again
1 Which is the best Lightweight Linux distros Do you Recommend for most users
2 for MR Jonah Is there any Possibility of Unbanning me from Privacy guides since I have improved since then and I promise to behave better than before

I can’t answer that question, you have to contact the Privacy Guides mod team in https://matrix.to/#/%23privacyguides-community-reports%3Amatrix.org

I only have one question this time:

  • Is there any major project(s) that we can expect to be released in 2024?

Other than that I hope your Holiday season goes well this year.

Do you think there are solutions out there for businesses genuinely looking to understand and reach their customers without having to resort to data farmed from big tech (google analytics, Meta for business, TikTok ads)?

In other words, how can marketing departments respect the privacy of current and prospective customers?

Are you planning on testing Fedora Asahi Remix now when it has been out for a few months? Do you have any idea when the project will reach a point where current M1/M2 users could use it as their daily driver, if not already?

Is the Hokey-Pokey really what it’s all about?

Hello !
Some questions :

  1. For @Jonah, what is your opinion on the linux-hardened Kernel? (available AFAIK on Arch Linux). Can it bring a pretty good hardened kernel to people not wanting to modify the Kernel themselves? Is it worth it to use it instead of the basic Linux kernel and hardening it ourselves?

  2. Not technically a question, but I found a problem on the Privacy Guides website. The Hypatia app has the GrapheneOS Auditor app icon instead of their own icon.
I don’t want to create a PG account to report it.
