Non-native English speakers, how popular privacy topic is in your native language?

Hi. A question for non-native English speakers. How popular is the privacy topic in your native language? How much privacy-related content is there in your native language? How do you think it affects the behavior of people who speak your language?

In my language privacy related content is usually associated with activism and digital resistance, not really popular among regular folks. There isn’t much of such content out there. And if people really start to dig into it, not just taking a couple of privacy advices and moving on, they become more cautious and aware about politics and technology. Or maybe they come to the ideas of privacy & security because they’re interested in politics and technology in the first place. These themes really are intertwined in my world.

Usual selling points of privacy & security principles, like convenience and freedom, are not as weighty as in freer societies, but surviving, being safe and connected means more (in my experience).

its really worse in my region. almost no privacy related content is available in my native language and probably very less content available in my national language. people here usually just dont care about privacy at all, for example they say “you are using google’s operating system after all” blah blah. If I want my friends to convince for switching apps like to signal or something, I usually say “how many useless apps you use on your phone? more than 30-40 right? so installing just another one app wont cost you anything”

In Germany there’s lots of resources on online privacy and people are generally more cautious. I think it’s because people have a healthy distrust in the government, after 12 years of national socialism and 40 years of communism.

Although like everywhere else, “normies” don’t care much, it’s mostly the tech crowd that is into privacy.

Good resources are for example https://www.privacy-handbuch.de/ an https://www.kuketz-blog.de/

Nothing. Though to be fair, my native language is nearly dead…
