“Normies” don’t know any better. Most of the people just use the system/computer/phone as they bough it. The pinnacle of customisation is changing the wallpaper.
Recently I had the misfortune to see the internet without any adblock. It’s absolutely insane! I don’t understand how normal people can even function there. Basically most of the pages are 90% advertisement and 10% content. Just to read a simple article is a struggle. Big header ad, title, perex, [fullscreen newsletter modal] … , ad, paragraph, autoplay video ad, paragraph, subscribe, paragraph, sponsored links … 
So, most users will take it as it is.
