Has anyone got any experiance or insite with the matic robot vacuum cleaner range?
At a glace it sounds great, but I haven’t looked all that intently (yet), but the idea of a privacy focused robotic vacuum cleaner is amazing, but we have all heard the horror stories of the generic branded cleaners.
Had I had the time I’d love to try and design a “simple” open source one, but it’s probably beyond my capabilities anyway.
I don’t know why I’d want a vacuum like that. I’d rather do it the old-fashioned way, so I don’t get doxxed and ratted out.
Please have a look at https://valetudo.cloud/
Free your vacuum from the cloud
Valetudo is an opinionated software solution for cloud-free vacuum robots installed on thousands of robots.
Since it was started in 2018, it has matured to a reliable fire-and-forget solution that just works.
Quite complex flashing, but without any cloud.
https://maticrobots.com/ is from former Google engineers. Please stay away.
Former employees from big tech doesn’t automatically make them bad.
Look at framework, it was made by former employees from different companies including big tech ones.
With that said it is an interesting app to note at
That’s why I’d love to have a privacy respecting one, assuming that one even exists, which I doubt, but having onethat doesn’t need to phone home at all to operate would be amazing.
Really though while the old fashioned way is more private (currently) I’d jist rather not have to vacuum the house given the choice, hence the desire for a privacy respecting device.
To be honest I though most of them out there didn’t have the capacity to process locally, so I hadn’t ever contemplated this. But I have to agree with @GorujoCY I don’t immediately think that just previous employment means that they are a bad person, I mean Edward Snowdon is a perfect example of not everyone having the same ethics and morals as a previous employer. I mean in the instance of Matic they might do, but they also might not.
