oh and a lot of android ones. short term goal make phone more private

thank you
oh and that’s the caveat I need to read it but broken down

edit: that’s really important

Hey UlyssesE glad to have you here, I would recommend searching the question you have first, there’s quite a big back catalog of posts that have very thoughtful answers already.

If you can’t find the answers you are looking for there, you can create a new post, make sure that you are specific with your question and include context so that people know how to help you.

I wouldntn even know where tk start! thank you Jordan i been here before and I lost interest but now I’m re-interesd (?) everyone is extremely kind I appreciate you greatly

Have you watched the Android Privacy & Security guide, that’s a good place to start. :grinning:

Privacy is unfortunately a long term journey and the simplest answer to all of these questions is to take it one step at a time.

This forums itself doesn’t really track users much (having an account at all is technically “tracking”). But everything you post here is public. Don’t share any personal information.

Securing devices and determining your digital footprint are both good starting points.

If I had to start over I might start with Techlore Go Incognito courses, especially for beginners it’s just a good linear overview that kind of covers all the basics. The Techlore Resources page and AlternativeTo are also worth a visit, but more for finding replacements to the apps and services you use.

The New Oil | Home and Privacy Guides: Independent Privacy & Security Resources also have great guides. But I find them most useful once I have a specific goal in mind, usually when I’m trying to implement some of the more “advanced” stuff or trying to find a more specific tool or service.
Techlore also lists both, and a few other organisations worth looking into.

They will usually all mention this, but you should consider the consequences first.
Eg. Sharing location with family might be a big privacy compromise, but for a lot of people that’s a small price to pay in comparison to the safety, assurance and convenience it provides.
Privacy and security are very rarely universal and you have to take into account your specific situation.

As with the video above. Taking steps to improve privacy and security on your devices is usually the best place to start.
Taking a minimalist approach to online accounts and deleting those you no longer use is probably next. If you plan on keeping the account, you should at least review all privacy and security settings available.

Beyond that it becomes a process of regular review and improvement.
With time you will discover more of you digital footprints and address them as you see fit.
