If I remember correctly, there is work being done on signal usernames but there’s no ETA yet.

You can use community hosted instances without authentication.
one can understand why this is happening when the official instance is home to so much abuse :c

It’s worth mentioning phone numbers might still be used with signal (though this might be a good thing as it allows people to easily move from whatsapp)
More private messengers like session, briar and XMPP do exist, but it looks like signal is meant for people you know IRL, who probably already have your phone number. It’s not really designed for anonymity.

but why facetime is an option even though it’s only for apple devices
