Introducing the Proton Family plan

I think this is a good move by them. Unfortunately, my family relies a lot on google services and 1. it would be extremely difficult to convince them to switch because they don’t really believe in privacy and security (They still say they have nothing to hide and it is suspicious) and 2. Proton does not yet have the features in their suite that my family uses in the google suite. Most of them are mentioned in Techlore’s Proton Suite Review. Maybe my future family…

Not only will you have to convince your family to use Proton but to pay for Email, Calender, Drive, VPN and Password manager. To most they think that paying for these things is unreasonable or silly. It’s also not exactly cheap especially if you have to convert this to a different currency for example 20 US dollars = 31 New Zealand dollars a month.

Still a good move by them but would have liked to see a less expensive option.

Yeah and I forgot to mention price. Thanks for adding that. Since they get all of the google stuff for free and those free things have more functionality than protons paid stuff it would be impossible to get them to switch.

It’s worth noting that this is the cheap plan, because before the family plan launched, it cost you 6 x $10 = $60 to get the same functionality now available in the family plan. This new plan is the same price that the former Visionary plan was, and many people have been waiting for that plan to return, so here it is

To be honest, Proton also has the most generous free plan in the industry in my opinion, so I find it very difficult to dock them points on pricing.

For email tutanota free plan is also pretty good. And for vpn windscribe free vpn plan is also pretty good. And these companies do not run all services just 1 thing wich is better than putting everything in one basket. So i do not argree with this.

Oh definitely I agree, it’s a good deal compared to what was offered by Proton before. My main issue is that it is significantly more expensive than other non-privacy conscious options. Especially when you consider the cost when converting to non USD/ EUR / CHF prices on top of having to pay upfront for the 24 months to get the best deal.

While it is good not to have all your eggs in one basket, people coming from Google want a suite, like Google. Actually, right now Tutanota is making a bunch of cool changes (a cloud storage service, better UI) and I like it, but the free version is limited to 1 gig, just like Proton. If we want to pay for a family plan, we might as well pay for premium for the whole family for cheaper. I personally like Proton more than Tutanota, so I would recommend it to my family. For Windscribe, I like ProtonVPN more because of all the open source clients (I’m sure windscribe doesn’t do anything bad, its for my peace of mind.) It’s also bundled in the plan so why not? Of course everyone’s opinion is their own and think what you want to think.

True however only the mobile windscribe apps are closed source (so the dekstop app and browser extension are actually open source). And i recently saw that their android app is now also open source. So the only closed source app is their ios app but its just the android app with all good features striped away as ios does. So thats not a really good argument anymore. (Also protonvpn sucks). So the family plan is your only good argument (and for beginners)?

Yeah I didnt mention that the desktop was open source.

For ProtonVPN, I’d rather use Mullvad or IVPN. I’m on the free version of ProtonVPN. If I was to pay for a VPN, it would be IVPN

I don’t really understand what yo are talking about but since this discussion is about the family plan, it is the main point right now and what we are talking about.

For my family, (and I would assume most others) use Gmail. While people argue you shouldn’t use easy switch, it is super convenient. One of the main reasons I would recommend it to someone.

Ik that this is about the family plan. I use windscribe free though i have protonvpn free as backup for if my data runs out. But windscribe is better atleast in my opinion. If i had to pay for a vpn it would be either windscribe pro (because of their awsome service.) Or ivpn. (I do not wanna pay for proton since i dislike proton. If you have seen any posts from me than you know that.)(and mullvad is just good but for me ivpn is even good or better in ereas i need it. So mullvad just feels just not the best for €5/month.)

Just for the next time they say that, remember that privacy is a global issue that affects freedom and oppression around the world and, ultimately, affects everyone and every society.
