If I'm concerned about not being tracked/manipulated with ads and data, is a tracker blocker like NextDNS more useful than Proton VPN?

What I have recently found when I started to get blocked by YouTube is that there are usually two main things that determine if you get blocked when using a VPN.

  1. Blacklisted IP address
  2. The VPN server provider

The first one is quite simple. If the IP address you’re using has been blacklisted, it is likely you will encounter more problems.

For the second one, Mullvad allows you to filter servers on the basis of the server provider. And in my testing, I have had the best experience with DataPacket servers. A few captchas here and there is expected, but at least I’m not getting completely blocked by any site anymore. Of course this gets a bit trickier with streaming sites that are actively trying to block VPN users. So, if you’re having issues with some websites, I would encourage you to try these steps.
