I work in Finance so not very tech-savvy, but I appreciate the simplicity and clear explanations in the community and Henry’s channel. I’m from Greece and looking forward meeting you all. On quick wins so far:
I’m transitioning to proton ecosystem (changing the email of my most important accounts to proton mail, adding all passwords to proton pass etc.)
I subscribed to proton unlimited, mostly to support the cause
Doing the very tedious task of going through all the places I have given information (newsletters, old accounts, apple log ins, etc) and requesting account and data deletion
Adding 2FA (Ente) to every place that is possible
Switched to brave browser and brave search engine
Deleted a lot of unused apps from my phone, and transitioned many to web app (prominent example here is youtube which improved my experience substantially)
Started using RSS feeds, which I love
Email aliasing in all accounts that is possible except very sensitive ones like bank
I am also looking for advice on what I could do further. For context, I use an iPhone as my personal phone and a macbook as my personal laptop. I have a windows machine for work (I am not allowed to install linux) in which I am forced to use outlook.
Thank you all and looking forward engaging with the community.
Thank you for your response. In terms of note taking I have always exclusively used Obsidian. I don’t know if it is recommended or not, but given its local text files, it should be fine?
I have used veracrypt in the past, but I don’t have any external storage to encrypt. I am contemplating if a NAS would make sense for me, given that I like to own my media (movies, music, etc.)
Separating work / personal devices is high on my list. Sadly, my phone is dual purpose and the work windows machine is still needed for few things my mac can’t do.
I hope you will have fun with this forum! I’ll take a look at your needs but also a threat model so I can better asses your needs later heck we can dm in that initial language I guess but whatever.
Use email aliases before you inadvertently leak your new proton email somewhere. Since you’re already going into the proton ecosystem, proton acquired simplelogin and built it into proton pass.
You may wish to consider getting a custom domain to use with Proton, which you can buy elsewhere for $10-12 a year. Should you ever want to find another email provider, you’d be able to keep your email address.
