Help on Starting my 3-2-1 Backup Journey

For a while, I used an external HDD to backup my files using File History. However, that HDD is getting near the point of being completely filled. I haven’t really looked too much into backups until recently, and I feel stumped on what to go for. I want to have a 3-2-1 backup strategy, but I don’t know if I have the current financial backing to do so.

I have a few asks for any backup recommendations to start with. They don’t have to fulfill all the requirements, but having most of them are good:

  1. Data is or can be encrypted. I currently use Veracrypt so I ideally compatibility with that
  2. Can be used on Windows and Linux. I am planning on switching to linux within the next year or two.
  3. Price. I don’t have an exact number on my budget, but if it helps I was looking at the Synology Beedrive and Beestation. These seem to be quite the deal for how much storage you can put of them for the price you are paying for (Around $180 for 4TBs) compared to traditional External SSDs and the cheapest NAS options from Synology. That being said, I don’t know/think they fulfill the previous 2 requirements.
  4. More Storage. I’m fine with two terabytes, but my close-to-filling-up HDD is 2TBs, so ideally more is better.

I probably have more things I think are important for a private/safe backup, but I’ll probably figure it out as this forum gets more activity. I have been looking at NAS’, but they feel a bit intimidating for me to try as someone just starting out. I am open to many options people suggest to start with. Thanks for listening :+1:
