GitHub — Passkeys Public Beta

This public beta is open to all users with a password, regardless of whether you use 2FA. To get started, enable passkeys as a feature preview.

[If you already use a security key], we’ll ask you if you want to upgrade it to a passkey, which will re-register it with your passkey provider. This re-registration ensures that your passkey is discoverable during authentication, and synced, if supported.

By using passkeys, you no longer need to enter a password, or even your username, when you sign in – nor do you need to perform 2FA, if you have 2FA enabled on your account. That’s because passkeys validate your identity, as well as possession of a device, so they count as two authentication factors in one.

If you have any feedback, please drop us a note in our public discussion – we’re excited for this advance in account security, and would love to understand how we can make it better for you.

Kinda relevant but one thing I think is cool is my bank already supports passkeys :sunglasses:

A bank that offers something other than SMS 2FA? We sure live in the future.

Ikr?? And even if you don’t use passkeys they force TOTP 2fa, they don’t even allow sms or email which is great imo :sunglasses:
