Hello! I know that this forum runs Discourse and I also know that you folks are big fans of Fedi, so I figured why not combine the two? There’s an official Discourse plug-in that allows for Fediverse integration, meaning federated remote users would be able to interact with topics here, for instance.
If I’m wrong and this forum is in fact running NodeBB (you would be surprised how similar Discourse and some older versions of NodeBB are), then the latest version of NodeBB also has native Fedi integration.
Yeah It’s Unfortunate But Don’t Worry I Have opened Up A New Community On Lemmy That Can Help You Out
There is a plugin for discourse that makes posts available directly on the Fediverse. I think it would be cool if this forum had that integration.
How can we lobby @Henry to set this up and enable it?
Those interested should educate themselves in exactly how the plugin works: ActivityPub Plugin - Plugin - Discourse Meta as it will help your suggestions to Techlore be the most helpful!
My .02 is be sure of which categories or types of posts you actually want relayed with the fediverse. People here seem to enjoying anonymizing their postings and such as time goes on… you also want to make sure what you are posting to the fediverse makes sense as opposed to spammy.
Example, relaying each top post from an announcement or news category to the fediverse.
You’ll need to consult the meta discourse linked above, or even ask questions there, to confirm it will actually work in the manner you are imagining. Remember, content posted to the fediverse will never go away.
Don’t surprised if some members of the forum find relaying messages off-putting & invasive.
I don’t consider it a relay, and I wouldn’t use it as such either. It’s two-way Fediverse integration for this forum. It’s not a list of top posts being sent to Fedi as much as it is this forum becoming its own Fedi instance and behaving as such. (EDIT: never mind, see below post)
Thanks for the link. Upon looking at it a bit this appears to be more of a half-baked feed if anything. Disappointing, but a start. I would suggest NodeBB, it has complete Fedi integration and I believe it’s possible to migrate to from Discourse relatively seamlessly. Of course, switching forum software will be an Entire Thing™, but I think it’s a good idea for admins to look into.
Done a bit of research, this seems to be the migration process: community[.]nodebb[.]org/topic/6818/switching-from-discourse/4
This is currently the case for all content posted to this and every other public forum.
I think your initial interpretation was correct and now you are wrong, because I don’t believe there are limitations on Discourse’s ActivityPub integration.
Hmm, okay. I’ll let the admins look into it, then ![]()
