Engineers, what CAD programs do you use?

CAD has been a pain point for me on Linux. The open source stuff I’ve tried so far seem to be lacking. I’ve looked at FreeCAD, Openscad, and some lesser known ones.

My goal is for my work to be private and not the property of the company that makes the software. .STEP file compatibility is a must, it’s parametric design after all.

Any chance you tried LibreCAD?

It’s 2d. I need something that can do 3d parametric design mostly for 3d printing.

For CAD, not necessarily CAD, but Blender could work. I use it for my creative projects.

for 3D and 3D Printing, I recommend blender yeah.

FreeCAD is the best I’ve found (that doesn’t destroy your wallet), it’s … not great but got a lot better with the 1.0 update.
Alternatively going with something browser based like onshape obviously also works but that defeats your goal.
