DivestOS is Unsustainable & Needs Community Support—We sent $250 and You Can Help Too!

Happy New Year! DivestOS and the Divested projects as they currently stand are ultimately unsustainable. My goal for 2023 was to acquire a grant to continue my work, I was unsuccessful. Today I am announcing a fundraiser of raising $12,000 USD by end of February. It may be a stretch to ask, but I hope you all have found sufficient value in my work to keep these projects going. If it is unsuccessful I will switch to a full-time job and the Divested projects will take a backseat. To those who have donated, I truly appreciate your support. Thank you - Tavi.

DivestOS doesn’t just work on their own ROM, which is a recommendation in our resources, but they also work on many other projects including Mull Browser, another suggestion in our resources

I just sent along $250 Techlore monies to help support the cause, y’all should consider helping too! It’s a great project with a friendly team that truly seems to care about creating a positive environment for the Android ROM space :tada: (They also support XMR & BTC in the donate link above :P)

Don’t forget that even just a few bucks from each of you can significantly add up! I’ll be granting a limited edition ‘DivestOS Supporter’ badge and forum title to anyone below in this thread who contributes at least $5 to Divest and includes a (obviously censored) screenshot for proof during the month of January

If you can’t financially support them for whatever reason, don’t forget to spread the word on platforms like Mastodon where they are active!

Thank you to patrons & other Techlore supporters! 😄

Also as always thanks to literally everyone who helps contribute to Techlore so we can support projects like this! We also contribute to other projects too thanks largely in part to your continual support to Techlore

I think this will be a great opportunity for techlore to be more than just a forum. As far as i know there are so many good projects that shut down due to low funding and/or community support and recognition.

I have an idea id like to present. i don’t know how to implement it or what goes into implementing it but here it goes. how about techlore add a series - on the forum,on youtube,on mastadon or wherever, where a good deserving project is crowned every month. the project will be talked about, made aware in the community and urge people to contribute if they can or if they find it useful. i think this would bring about a great change and encourage more awesome projects to rise and for existing projects to sustain. well…anyway just my piece of the pie.

anyway love what divest team does. my support and contribution is with the team and hope they continue the project.

Even if it’s a 1 time card, I would remove sensitive information such as Receipt No. and last 4 digits of credit card

@Jordan @rollsicecream @Sandbag6736 y’all should have badges!! Feel free to also make it your titles if you want to showcase it :tada:

Funny enough we discussed this in our group chat before we did this  We’ll explore ideas because it could be a fun way to showcase projects!

Long time reader here, thank you for encouraging me both to finally take part in the forum and to support a project I’ve been using in my secondary device for years now.

@anon33574360 badge granted!! Happy to see you active!

Nice idea, Henry! The badge thing might not be a bad idea to get people on the forum contributing to projects more. It might get annoying with several badges, obviously but you could maybe have “Signal supporter” badges, for example.

Thank you for this great opportunity to share the project. One year plus user of this amazing ROM and I certainly don’t want to see it go.

@bepart badge granted! Awesome contribution!!

Also just a heads up they’ve hit over half their goal

They still need more support if they’re going to hit the full goal by February. We’re still granting badges through the rest of January!

I’m currently using the blocklist, and I recently installed DivestOS on my secondary phone - quite a nice experience so far.

DivestOS is my favorite Android OS. I’m using it on my old harpia since about ~7 months.
It is imo the most secure and privacy-friendly OS for many old Android devices, making it the best choice for those who either cannot afford a newer Pixel or just want to use their devices as long as possible, e.g. for environmental reasons.

I can also recommend the other Divested projects, e.g. Mull.

IMO the biggest problem for DivestOS is the lack of publicity - if more people knew about it, they could benefit from it and more donations would come in.
So I would love to see a Techlore video about it! :slightly_smiling_face:

Looks like we’re all wrapped up! Thanks for closing @Jonah

Just a quick tally looks like our community was able to raise over $400

Thanks everyone for participating! We’ll chat over if we want to make this a more frequent event where we showcase projects.
