With how many countries we’ve seen since 2025 undermining encryption, In this one I show (in a bit of a clever manner with alot of break lines before the reveal) what it will mean if it gets undermined by demoing it using KryptEY to prove a point.
Think of this blog post as extension of:
Do you mind non content related criticism of your blog post? My suggestions could help you improve your future blog posts.
If not, no worries - I won’t say anything.
I mean go ahead what’s wrong exactly?
Cool!
- The orange text on grey background is not too easy to read. The text feels too bright.
- The text width is also too wide I feel. It’s a little difficult following the sentences from one corner of the screen to the other. But perhaps this has more to do with my 27 inch monitor than anything.
- Grammatical errors are plentiful. I get the point you’re trying to make, but the quality of exposition is lacking and doesn’t come off as well as it could have. This mostly comes down to one’s English skills - speaking and writing.
Note:
I absolutely don’t mean any insult by these comments/criticisms. You should take them for exactly that and not infer anything else from it. And think more on what I said. I think it will improve your blog if you see to it. And I am only saying this because I see something with potential that can get a lot better. Hope you don’t have any hard feelings. You are also free to ask others if they find what I say unreasonable if you disagree with me on these things. These are just my opinions (and I did ask before commenting on it). Thanks!
I just wanted to say great blog post.
I also personally don’t have an issue with the orange text on the grey background. I can read it just fine on my iPhone.
However, I must caution that I am unsure how this text will fair to colorblind individuals. I am not colorblind. So, I am no expert.
From Brave AI:
Colorblind individuals may experience issues with orange text on a grey background due to the similarity in brightness and hue. For those with protanopia or deuteranopia, orange and grey can appear very similar, making the text difficult to read. This is because these types of colorblindness affect the perception of red and green, which are components of orange. Additionally, the low contrast between the orange text and the grey background can exacerbate the issue, making it hard for colorblind users to distinguish the text from the background.
To ensure better readability for colorblind users, it is recommended to use high-contrast color combinations and to avoid using color as the only means of conveying information. For example, using a darker or lighter shade of orange, or adding a border or background shape to the text, can help improve visibility. Alternatively, using a different color that provides better contrast, such as black or white, can also enhance readability.
I think what you wrote was insightful and a good read. Thanks for sharing!!
Good article, it’s so surprising that Switzerland is considering undermining encryption feels like no country is safe from these laws.
Wow I received quite the criticism, I’ll have to check out if the padding is even necessary anymore then!
Keep in mind I mostly look at Desktop mode and a little on Mobile and I didn’t feel a thing on mobile…
Now first I appreciate that the content was good enough as is, for the Grammatical errors @Howard-Beale where was it missed I wonder? Because i fo use machine learning to fix grammars when necessary because I very much make mistakes without me knowing
as for the text width, Again I hope you’ll excuse me as I try to respond to criticism not perfect by any means but I wonder if you mean the size could be bigger or the padding?
Orange grey on text background
I made clear on the about page here that my choice of color is intentional, inspired by my OC, I wonder if you just need some things to be darker or brighter? If it’s still overwhelming generally the reader modes on the browser I’ve found to work well Maybel outside of pictures but ik I shouldn’t point someone to a reader mode because of that and that’s why I’m looking for some feedback. The darker background with the Orange/yellowish text was made because of the help with trying to satisfy the PG Community’s reading and that included the padding…
@anon24541166 thanks for not minding, as for colorblind you’re totally right and wish dev tools gave an option to simulate the colorblindness, Maybe it isn’t an issue maybe it is, Just wish I could test it in the comfort of my brave browser
@Jordan appreciate it, as for your feedback , padding, I intentionally set one to make desktop mode readers not have to squint on the edge of the screens like @Howard-Beale (I forgot to mention to Howard, My monitor is 24 inch), Mobile users don’t struggle without padding which is good but if there was actually a way to figure out a balance or otherwise be able to separate the rendering between mobile and desktop that would be amazing, Maybe I can make 2 separate posts one friendly on mobile and one friendly on desktop? But if possible I want to have a 2-in-1. This is what I love about website builders like https://carrd.co, With this one I have the capability to edit Elements separately between desktop and mobile users without making a separate page but I don’t see how I can replicate in HTML, and more importantly Carrd is not a wee website builder I can use for blog due to it’a design, maybe if you boot your mac or iPad maybe you can get why the padding is here.
Keep in mind I test on these following setups:
Brave browser, Arch Linux, 24" 1920x1080 Monitor
Pixel 7, FF/Brave, GrapheneOS.
Also tested on a Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro
Edit: actively investigating the padding thing atm.
Edit 2: @Jordan fixed padding, should be different both mobile and desktop, feel free to let me know if it didn’t affect it, I’ll apply it on my template and the rest of the posts.
@Howard-Beale feel free to give me your answers…
Edit 3: I looked at @anon24541166 about colorblindness, turns out devtools of chrome do have tools to simulate deficiency, it was hidden in rendering for some reason, google should definitely make it more accessible to devs. Anyways here’s what I understand at least:
Protanopia (no red): Outside of links, makes for a dark yellow color in text, some prefer it, some don’t that’s subjectable and something that could be potentially addressed if I receive some feedback on that and see if I can find another balance like I did with padding.
Deuteranopia (no Green): from Protanopia it brightens a little the yellow text, so it looks a little more brighter, again subjectable here.
Tritanopia (no blue): Shifts links and text colors significantly but nothing unreadable and I can understand why people with that blindness could consider the colors weird, as is for most people however orange and darker grey is considered weird apparently but yeah.
Achromatopsia (No color, I have watched an anime where a character suffers from this I’m interested to know if there are actually people with Achromatopsia like in the Anime, anyways): SImilar to Tritanopia actually except gray, gray and a dark white on Links.
Nothing unreadable to my understanding. Based on the provided devtool.
(Blurred vision people actually do have a better time reading with these color choices of mine actually at least if the emulation is correct.)
Looks good, it’s much easier to read now! ![]()
