Capitulation due to social pressure

Don’t feel bad. Where most privacy initiatives fail is in getting your social group to join. I had to compromise with my wife and get her an iPhone instead of using a degoogled phone. She just couldn’t handle the navigation of the other FOSS apps and the lack of geolocation search (using map app to search for something). At least the iPhone limits third party tracking better than other Android smartphones.

On the plus side, my brother and I are on a crusade to get the rest of my family on Signal off of SMS. You win some, you lose some. You don’t have to shun them, but you can take a hard line on some things. While I am completely unsuccessful getting other friends to join on Signal, they know that I am not on Facebook. I may miss out on a few tertiary social events, but they message me directly for the important ones.
