Phew, a lot of interesting views here. I should start by saying that I don’t and have never ‘gamed’, so am completely out of touch with the gaming experience.
I was talking with some people who had a large neo-nazi presence in their area, and they were of the opinion that all speech should be free, except fascist speech. I personally feel that any sort of ‘snooping’ or moderation, or recording, is an extra step towards censorship, of which we are surrounded by more and more each year.
'Toxic culture, hmm, sounds like a barrel of fun lol. What about this idea of encouraging other men, when they experience male verbal or other abuse against women, to get involved. Isn’t that better, community policing kind of thing? That said, I appreciate I’ve no idea what it’s like and it frankly sounds pretty vile, and depressing!
Yes, unless the kids learnt the language from the parents!
Censorship, monitoring, freedom of expression, tough subject.
I’m reminded of that idea, ‘with freedom comes responsibility’. Doesn’t sound like people are acting too responsible (the ones doing the hate-speech). As a contrast, take this forum, we are a community of ‘responsibly acting adults’, what’s the difference?
