Cool tool.
The developer/maintaner of it does inspire confidence in the long term viability of it, especially for Linux. So it’ll be well worth the price.
Instead of buying a physical lock that was popular before, this is most likely a better solution.
Well, YouTube is shadow banning my responses to all the questions about BusKill in that video, so I think I’m just going to follow Henry’s advice and reply to them here on the forums
Anyone here who somehow doesn’t get false-positive banned by YouTube is welcome to copy/alter/paste my responses in the video’s comments. But don’t link to this thread, or you’ll probably get banned too.
@zblurth: Use one of those linux disto that run on a usb key and attach that key to yourself
Yeah, BusKill works great with TAILS, which is a security-hardened live distro that automatically wipes its RAM and powers off when it gets unplugged
@JackIsAnonymous honestly that would work except the live environment is still running on a laptop, which would still have everything logged into your web browser still accessible.
@Txoka Fun fact: They still run after you pull the usb with whatever is loaded into memory!
That doesn’t happen for TAILS, which will wipe its RAM and power off when unplugged.
Yeah. That’s why I suggested Henry to post the video here at the same time so this can act as a better comment section - it also encourages more activity on the forum for everyone’s benefit.
YT has gone full shit.
@soymadip What about linux client?
The app is cross-platform. In linux you can install with apt-get install buskill or download the AppImage release.
@PDMCGEEJR another option is using yubikey and enable a function where you remove your yubikey it automatically locks. i currently do this so when i leave i remove it and take it with me any it locks instantly.
Some of our users do use YubiKeys with BusKill
@james141111 Im not sure why this needs to be specialist hardware, surely software could be written that just looks for a standard USB drive with a specific serial or key file on it to do exactly the same thing?
The BusKill software does not need specialized hardware. It works with with any standard USB drive.
The benefit of buying our cable is that it has a magnetic breakaway in the middle of the cable, but of course you can make your own. We have instructions for this here:
It looks like they got caught by YouTube’s filter for some reason, I approved your comments yesterday but they appear to have just disappeared? Very strange ![]()
Oh, you saw his comments? I checked our ‘held’ section yesterday and yeah it was completely empty for me. I just attributed it to the Youtube disappearing comments issue.
They may still be doing that… I never saw a single comment when I used to comment on your videos a couple years ago. I then rage closed my account.
I hope you rage-opened a PeerTube account too ![]()
Moved to RSS for my sanity instead.
@maltfield only because I gave up on commenting on platforms fully and prefer to engage in forums in like instead.
I appreciate these forums exist, but non-federated threads (ie PeerTube uses ActivityPub) just feels very isolated and not-futureproof
You’re a purist in this regard. I can respect that. But it’s still so much better than other bigger centralized platforms.
But yeah - perfect internet world is always an arms length away with one thing or another.
But I take your point - it’s true.
