I know I’m replying to an older post but organizing my bookmarks is something I’m currently working on. I’ve used a lot of bookmarking apps but the ones I’ve used the most are Raindrop and Anybox, both paid versions. I used each one for at least a year. And now I’ve come full circle back to just keeping bookmarks in my browser, Brave.
I think the idea of having a separate bookmarking app is neat and sounds like a practical thing, given we have apps for EVERYTHING now a days. But what caused me to come full circle to just keeping bookmarks in my main browser was thinking about my digital food print, digital maintenance, and old fashioned saving some money.
It’s so easy to spread our PII all over the internet now with apps and services. And with DB leaks and hacks happening daily, matter of when not if anymore, not having more of my PII in a separate app/service just takes away another attack vector for me. Which leads to digital maintenance. A separate bookmarking app/log in/payment/keeping up with the app and dev, etc. all of this just consumes more of my time. Takes away from just enjoying and surfing the web.
Then saving some extra cash. Sure Raindrop and other services have free plans. But the free ones are limited. And I always feel some guilt when using a free tier for a long time and not financially supporting the dev/company, after all I want them to stick around for as long as I use their app right.
So now I’m just saving all my bookmarks, which is a lot lol smh, to Brave because it’s my main browser I use to surf the web, pay bills, etc. The bookmarks sync fine across all my Apple devices; iPhone, iPad, and MBA. It’s not as flashy or all the features that an exclusive bookmarking app. But I think that’s a good thing because it’s less distraction.
Just my 2 cents.
