To be more specific, they used a technology called Xamarin that allowed developers to use C# to developer cross OS apps. That recently got EOL’d, and didn’t have all the features that exist in more modern tools since Microsoft wasn’t keeping up. These app rewrites allow for better performance, better integration with new OS level APIs, and let the apps meld better with native UI toolkits
