Hi, I’m looking for a daily planner app or a similar productivity tool (for Android) that will help me organize my days and keep me on schedule. I already use a calendar and note-taking to sort my day out, but I need something more dedicated and that allows for fine-grained control of every hour.
Goal tracking or performance reviews are welcome but secondary, and good privacy practices are always a plus (I intend to keep the app offline and isolated regardless).
Also, feel free to share your workflow or what set of tools you use to keep your work on track.
You could take your calendar into time blocking mode, and arrange the blocks based upon priorities and goals. For every hour.
You may want to start out on paper first.
There’s a whole collection of folks on reddit, youtube, discord, mastodon, etc that pile over PKM (Personal Knowledge Management) and productivity topics.
I subscribed to this yesterday and am shocked at how perfect it seems so far.
E2EE, lifetime option, habit tracking, Things-like task management, support for different workflows like eisenhower matrix, etc… journaling, notes. It’s just too good lol. So well designed. Anyway I’m still using Todoist but I’m trying to slowly use Lunatask for more things and see if I can move over permanently. If I can, lifetime purchase for me.
BTW: Lunatask on iOS w/ Lockdown mode is broken. @Jordan has the workaround of just disabling lockdown mode when logging in and then re-enabling. The encryption key is what causes issues.
Update, heard back from Lunatask support:
You are right – this is indeed caused by lockdown mode. I’m personally not that familiar with that technology. Is it possible to give exception to Lunatask to use WebAssembly? Argon2 key derivation function, part of encryption toolchain used for password hashing, is implemented in WebAssembly and WebAssembly support is by default disabled in lockdown mode.
So yeah disabling/re-enabling seems to be the current option on iOS /iPadOS with lockdown
I looked into it after seeing the suggestion here, and it looks awesome! How do you feel about the privacy & security of the service? Do you have any concerns?
Awesome! I found Lunatask to not be the right fit for me, but I still try to recommend it because it’s clearly a thoughtfully designed app, perfect for the right person.
Regarding the Lockdown mode issue, it never occurred to me that Lockdown mode affects web-based (and therefore WebKit) apps — makes sense though.
Yeah it’s extremely well designed. Super intentional. I’ve already migrated everything to it from Todoist and I’m already pretty all-in Only thing it’s really not good at is collaborative projects. It’s clearly not designed for teams working on things together. So will keep Todoist for things like our video content that needs coordination
How does Lunatask compare to something like Notesnook when it comes to journaling? My journaling setup is a bit scuffed on Notesnook, so might give Lunatask a shot if it’s decent.
Lunatask looks incredible! Almost too good to be true …
Before I switch from Joplin, I wanted to do some research.
The app itself, privacy etc looks great. But there are some things that will probably stop me from switching
As privacyfounder mentioned:
It also doesn’t seem to work on GOS with Exploit protection compatibility mode.
Not possible to download APK alone (source). It’s not a dealbreaker, but to install another store just for one app …
If you use a degoogled Android distribution, search for Lunatask on the Aurora Store. Distribution via an APK is not possible.
But what is kind a dealbreaker for me is not be able to use the app completely offline. Of course I want synchronization, but with Joplin I don’t need to log in anywhere to access my data. And to cite their website:
[…] then you will probably wake up one day logged out of your account and your data will be gone.
That’s not really something I want to experience.
EDIT: Another thing that grinds my gears. FFS, let me see/try the app without any registration!
This makes sense, as WebAssembly can be seen as an attack vector. Its faster than JavaScript, which is great for things like complex hashing functions, but it has the same issues as JavaScript JIT in that it is compiled down to machine code, and AKAIK can’t be interpreted like JS can.
The option to insert an image from a remote URL in notes @Ambrosio kind of image support!
Additional Markdown formatting support (horizontal line, text highlighting, etc.) @Ambrosio another issue of yours!
New Markdown editor hopefully addresses your other MD issues
Some of the ideas that aren’t confirmed but have a lot of attention are:
Tagging on tasks is something I’d love to see that’s on their ideas list
Tables is on their ideas list
Web version is a consideration in their ideas
Flatpak version in their ideas
ARM linux build
Open source/self-hosting option
I think it’s worth mentioning they just left beta last week. This is still a young service and seems super promising to me I’ve been loving it the last few days.
