Hi all. Recently starting watching Techlore videos for the last few months, and then found myself visiting the forums more than a handful of times doing research for privacy-related topics. So … might as well join up.
My journey into privacy started with my home desktop computer. I didn’t like where Windows was going for a while, having to constantly fight with their telemetry with various tools and workarounds. The initial Copilot rollout was the last straw for me, so I jumped into Linux and have barely looked back. (Still dual boot a pre-Copilot version of Windows that’s version locked with a group policy on a separate drive, but it’s barely ever used.)
After that I decided to start the De-Googling process and initially started with Mailbox dot org’s email service. I’ve since branched out to other services in addition to Mailbox, but I’ll get more into detail about my overall privacy journey in another post and ask for some advice on my future plans for email and other things.
Eventually I will be deleting my 20+ year old primary gmail account, along with some of the other alternative ones I’ve made over the years. It’ll be a huge step for me and definitely a sense of finality and commitment to breaking ties with at least one of the biggest tech players.
Anyways, that’s my jam and look forward to participating in some of the discussions here.
