a catastrophe in a privacy community: Unfortunately, we still do not use PeerTube (Open Source).
Techlore is not the only content creator with this problem. Some other tech channels have also published PeerTube videos in the past, but soon discontinued them because there were too few clicks/viewers.
Do we really want to feed Google with our data? It makes me really sad that even tech/geek channels on PeerTube have too few clicks/viewers.
For us as end users, PeerTube only has advantages, no advertising and no captchas.
I don’t understand the world anymore. Very contradictory world to de-google the phone, but sit in front of Youtube all the time.
Maybe before attributing to malice, you can just ask before claiming a catastrophe?
Jonah is no longer in the team, announced on the forum. And I’m in the process of transitioning to a new PeerTube server.
Things will be caught up soon. And for the record I don’t blame other creators for no longer using PeerTube, it’s a pain to maintain and it costs money to do it properly for hundreds of videos.
Based on how long it’s taking to transcode hundreds of videos on the new instance I expect the instance to go live and be caught up mid next week.
This was also directly addressed earlier this week:
But the basic problem remains, and I don’t just see it with Techlore, but with all content creators. PeerTube videos have far too few viewers compared to YouTube videos. I’ve read this many times and unfortunately other content creators have also discontinued their presence on PeerTube for this very reason.
I don’t see the problem with you Techlore, but with us as viewers who prefer to click on YouTube links. It’s sad of us.
And that’s why evaluating and ensuring the language has the right tone and message including ensuring proper grammar and punctuation is important.
And yes, that’s even if English is not your native language because in 2025, this is a legitimate reason to use gen AI. Of course you should also disclose the same in the comment.
Very few people like such ideas or criticism but I see no better alternate solution for written correspondence when English is not your native language.
PeerTube has been doing a lot of work to improve the platform, it’s a lot better than what it was like even a year ago. The problem is that YouTube basically has a monopoly on video streaming, nothing even comes close. So creators who want the largest reach have to post on there, resulting in most people just watching where all the content exists.
It’s almost a systemic issue where the only thing that would actually cause creators to move is if there was some sort of government regulation/intervention to remove YouTube’s stranglehold of video streaming or if YouTube just did something so controversial that people started leaving.
Still peertube is quite difficult to use, still learning how to use it.
BUT learning and discovering A LOT of great things. Some more examples: https://activitypods.org/, https://nextgraph.org/ etc. tech of the future.
